Death, dwarfs and Stanley the horse

Magnus Chase and the Sword of Summer ~ Rick Riordan

Hello readers!

I’m back with a review on the first book in the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series by Rick Riordan! The next book is coming out this October and I’m so excited. But for now, enjoy my review on this beautiful book!

Magnus Chase is a pretty normal sixteen year old. That is until he is killed by a fire giant, discovers he is the son of a Norse God and is told he must save the whole of the nine worlds in nine days. With an ex-Valkyrie, a deaf elf and an outcast dwarf, Magnus sets off as a fugitive, across the lands of giants and talking goats, to save the worlds. Will they make it in time to stop Doom’s Day or will they perish in the hands of a dark wolf? There’s only one way to find out…

I absolutely adored this book! First of all, I learnt a lot about Norse Mythology and the Vikings which was very interesting indeed. It’s also quite funny in places, and there were some awesome characters. My favourite was Sam, because she was so badass and she represented the ‘girl power’ in the group. Even though she’d had a pretty rough past and her dad is Loki so she doesn’t have the best reputation, she was just so awesome and I really want her and Magnus to be a couple! Magnus was surprisingly not as annoying as most teenagers, and HE UNDERSTOOD GIRLS! I know! He was really sweet and actually reacted like a normal person would in his really weird circumstances, and definitely a likeable main character which is one of the most important things in a book. All of the characters were so well written, the plot was so awesome and it’s such a page turner! To sum this book up in one word: GoReadThisBookRightNowItIsActuallyAmazinglyAwesome.
