  1. “The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid.” Am I right that this is from Northanger Abbey? I loved that book. All your quotes are lovely! I have a bookmark that says ‘Live always in the best company when you read’ I don’t know what that’s from, but I like it for a quote. It’s not quite true however, because some of the characters in books that you get most out of are not the best company at all, just a good laugh. Jane Austen is great for those sort of characters. However the hero or heroine is still good company, and so is the author, who you are spending time with by reading the books of.

    • Thanks! I’m not quite sure where it’s from actually.
I really need to read some Jane Austen books! I like the thought that you’re spending time with the author too when you read a book. Sometimes I have little conversations with the characters of a book I really like.

  2. Actually, I was exaggerating a little; our dining room doesn’t have any books in it – (except for the ones I leave lying about after taking ages at my meals because I was reading all through them!) – but we certainly have a bookish house.

  4. Hi Simi!
Another one of my favorite quotes about books is:

“I love books. I love that moment when you open one and sink into it you can escape from the world, into a story that’s way more interesting than yours will ever be.”

    Elizabet Scott

(I don’t mean to be offensive, if you took it that way. It was just a quote I liked.)
